Stepwise Community Services helps individuals and diverse communities navigate life’s challenges with clarity, care, and practical support. We believe that no one, and no community, should have to navigate life alone, and everything we do starts from that belief.
The name Stepwise reflects how progress actually happens - one practical step at a time. Whether someone is settling into a new country, finding safety and support, managing money pressure, or staying connected as they age, our role is to help make that next step clear. It's support, action and progress, and it's built into how we work every day.
Stepwise brings together the strengths of Metro Assist and Community Action for Better Living (CABL), two trusted organisations that between them have supported communities across South West Sydney for more than 90 years. The name has changed, but the people, the programs and the commitment behind them haven't. If you've known us as Metro Assist or CABL, you're in exactly the right place.

Are Stepwise services free?
Most of our services are completely free. A small number, like Dress for Work, offer both a free and a fee for service option. Either way, there’s no cost to reach out and find out what’s right for you.
Where are you located?
We operate across six locations in Sydney’s inner west and south west. Visit our Contact page for the full list and opening hours.
Do you have workers who speak my language?
Yes. Our teams include bilingual workers across a wide range of community languages.
What is the difference between Metro Assist, Cabl, and Stepwise?
Metro Assist and CABL have come together as Stepwise Community Services. The programs, the people and the support you know haven’t gone anywhere, we’ve simply brought two trusted organisations together under one name so we can do more for the communities we serve.
